Dancing Paddington Review & Giveaway

Paddington Bear is one of those iconic characters that instantly takes you back to your childhood. I loved Paddington as a child, and I love it even more that Little gets to experience something that I got to at his age too. If like me, you enjoyed the 2014 film Paddington, then you'll be pleased to know that Paddington 2 is released in cinemas on 10th November. YAY.  As if we weren't eagerly awaiting the release already, we've been sent our very own Dancing Paddington to test out..

5 Things That Have Changed Since Pregnancy

things that have changed since pregnancy

Pregnancy is one of the biggest things that a woman's body will go through, so of course, its natural that things change afterwards. Both my pregnancy, and delivery were fairly straight forward so I didn't really expect the amount of changes that both my body and I have been through. I'm not just talking about the standard fluctuation in weight and struggling to accept that my hips have widened, forever. I'm talking about feeling hot hot hot, and not just in the bedroom...

Making A House A Home With Desenio

I've lived in my current home for over three years, and it wasn't until this year that I actually put some shelves up and started to make it look a little more 'homely'. I've always loved the Scandinavian decor of bright white walls, and clean spaces but find it's not always easy trying to jazz things up without creating clutter...

5 Tips For Travelling Abroad With Young Children

One thing I want to be able to do is explore the world with my family. I'm hoping we'll be able to go somewhere new every year as I want little to experience different cultures, see new things and most of all, have some incredible memories. It's something that's really important to me, and now he's no longer a baby it's got me thinking about our first holiday, and how we'll prepare. So, I've put together five tips for travelling abroad with young children that we'll be following before every holiday..

Messy Play - Body Painting

Messy play allows young children to make their own discoveries, and explore their senses. We grabbed a cardboard box, some paint and did body painting..

Babies and young children learn through play, and exploring. Messy play allows them to make their own discoveries, and explore their senses without having an end goal of making something. You can use pretty much anything for messy play; I'm a self confessed serial online shopper, and a blogger so my house is constantly full of boxes, they are literally everywhere. I'm forever storing them just in case I need them for something, (usually hoarding crap in the loft), but I've decided from now on I'll use them for play...

My New Monchrome Space For Blogging

I've created a minimalistic, monochrome office space where I can blog in peace

I've been blogging from the comfort of my sofa for as long as I can remember, but recently I've been finding it really difficult to keep in the zone, and often find myself distracted by everything going on around me. We don't have a spare room for me to call an office so at the weekend I made myself a little space and set up my own little blogging area. I love the office space I've created; I wanted it to be fairly minimalistic so I've kept details simple, monochrome and clutter free..

National Marine Aquarium Plymouth

National Marine Aquarium Plymouth Review

We knew we wanted to take little on a proper day out for his first birthday, but finding something that would appeal to him, and be suitable wasn't easy. We originally decided to go to the zoo but after thinking about it, at just one year old, how much would he actually see of the animals? So, in the end, we decided on the next best thing, or even better in our sons eyes because he loves fish; we chose to go to the National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth.

What Happens During A Smear Test?

What happens during a smear test?

Earlier this year I received an important letter in the post, one that every woman, once they reach a certain age, will receive; an invitation for my first cervical screening, aka 'smear test'. Ill admit, my initial reaction was 'Oh crap', but after pregnancy, and giving birth I wasn't exactly adverse to getting my vagina out. Oh the joys of being a woman, but that's reality and the thought of cancer was far more daunting than a few minutes of embarrassment so I booked it.

A few days ago I read the recent figures released by the NHS which showed that the South West has one of the UK's lowest rates of young women coming forward for smear tests. Evidence shows there has been a fall in attendance of women across all age groups over the past few years but the decline is more prominent amongst younger women. This really shocked me, when something like cervical cancer can be markedly prevented by regular screenings and the HPV vaccine, I just can't fathom why anyone wouldn't have it done. I understand that embarrassment is a huge factor but the whole procedure really isn't that bad so I thought I'd share my experience in the hope it urges someone else to go and have their cervical screening done...

Tips For Stress Free Camping With A Toddler

Tips For Camping With A Toddler

Camping isn't for everyone but I'm a bit of a nature bum and love nothing more than being outside, especially when its quiet. It was pretty inevitable that we'd become a camping family; before we had little we used to go camping quite a lot and Daddy quite often goes fishing for the night. There are just so many beautiful places to explore so we knew we wanted to get little one used to camping from an early age. Here are my tips for camping with a toddler..

Last Minute Father's Day Gifts

fathers day gifts

If you still haven't bought anything for Father's Day (which is on Sunday by the way) then don't worry, it's snuck up on me too. I'm usually one who tries to make things perfect, especially now I have my own child but this year, I've left it last minute. Little doesn't always grace Daddy with the same affection he does Mama, well that is unless you call an early morning smack to the face a serious show of love, but I know he'd show Daddy he's loved if he could. I'm a nag, I'm happy to admit that so I guess Father's Day is also a chance for me to show Mr that he's appreciated by the both of us.

We went all out on novelty gifts last year for Daddy's first fathers day, but they don't really cut it every year. I don't want to end up with a stack of unworn Dad socks and air fresheners (they smell awful) in the drawer so instead I headed onto Amara to find something he, and my own dad will actually like. Amara have an extensive range of products on their site, and you'll definitely find something for all dads, here are some of my favourite picks..

Toddlers Do The Most Annoying Things

toddlers are annoying

It's hard to imagine your sweet little newborn doing anything other than sleeping. I mean, those sleepless nights seem to go on forever but they don't. Well that is of course if you don't co sleep, because for us, actually just me, the other half sleeps soundly, my nights are still sleepless. I'm digressing, but in all honesty, I'm just here to tell you to embrace that baby stage, because once they can walk, once they become toddlers, it's a whole different kettle of fish; toddlers are so annoying...

Eating Out As A Family With Prezzo La Famiglia

Prezzo La Famiglia Review

My birthday was the only day last week that the sun decided to shine all day, it was magnificent! We thought it was the perfect excuse to banish the dishes and head out in the evening for something to eat. We love eating out, but as a family it can be quite stressful; finding a restaurant that caters for everyone isn't easy as we all tend to have different tastes and portion sizes. Daddy usually has eyes bigger than his belly and goes for an overly large portion of 'man food', I'm not exactly adventurous, I tend to stick to the same foods all the time and have a small portion. Little? Well if he could, he'd eat just about anything! Thankfully for moments like these, Prezzo have created La Famiglia.

Three Ways To Help Build A Good Credit Score

At some point in your adult life, you'll need credit. When you apply for certain products, lenders will perform a credit check; looking at your past credit history helps them to predict your future behaviour and determines in their mind whether you're a risk or not. Something I didn't realise when I was younger was that you need to actually have a credit history to have a credit score. I just presumed that as I had no debt then I'd have a good credit score but that's not the case. No credit history, no score. So, having little credit history goes against you, just as much as having poor history does.

I used to think that you only ever needed a good credit history for big purchases, like a mortgage or a business loan. But, your credit history can actually affect whether or not you can pay your bills via direct debit, pay monthly for your insurances or even whether you can get a mobile phone contract. I definitely think as soon as you're eighteen, it's worth starting to build a good credit history, so here for you are three ways to help build a good credit score..

Promoting Breastfeeding ISN'T A Criticism Of Formula

Whenever I see a viral post about breastfeeding there's a backlash of comments from parents that haven't or can't breastfeed. I can't help but feel that if you talk positively about breastfeeding, you'll be offending someone and accused of riding a high horse. Why does how you choose to feed your child cause such a divide?

Bathtime Fun With Vital Baby

There's no doubt that bath time is little man's favourite time of day, he's always laughing, splashing and generally just trying to cause mischief amongst the bubbles. We've always encouraged play in the bath, so we were super excited when Vital Baby sent over some of their bath toys for us to try out, needless to say they were a big hit from the offset.

Top Tips To Turn Tears Into Smiles

Top Tips To Turn Tears Into Smiles

Spring has finally sprung into action and delivered us some fabulous weather (despite the fact that whilst I write this, it's absolutely tipping it down) which means we've been heading outside more than ever (and ignoring housework). Now little is walking, we've been experiencing more tears than ever as he just loves to climb things and venture into places he shouldn't; his poor little legs are always full of bruises and scratches. BritMums & Elastoplast recently asked me what my best strategies are to sooth and cheer my little one when he suffers with the inevitable bumps and scrapes. So, here for you are my tops tips to turn tears into smiles.

A Monochrome First Birthday Party

You may of noticed everything has been quiet on my social channels, and even quieter on the blog. I will admit, and yes, you can call my crazy, I turned into some kind of mumzilla to make everything perfect for my baby's first birthday.

Lets just address the fact my baby is officially ONE! I know everyone says this, but I really don't know where the past year has gone? It's literally flown by. Anyway, little man's birthday fell on bank holiday weekend; the added day meant that family could travel down without it all being too much of a rush, so we decided to throw a little party to celebrate him turning one.

Slow Cooked Bolognese With Dolmio

Slow Cooked Bolognese Recipe, Slow Cooker Recipes,

The weather has been pretty miserable as of late, so I've been taking the opportunity to take advantage of our favourite comfort meals. As my baby decided to actually take a nap for longer than ten minutes, I found myself with some spare time (that's a once in a blue moon moment when you're a parent). Rather than have the usual rush at dinner time of trying to prepare and cook dinner before the little, but very loud one lets us, and the neighbourhood know he's hungry, I thought I'd get the slow cooker out.

I'm pretty rubbish at remembering I have a slow cooker, despite the fact that every time I use it, I say 'I must do this more'. I love the ease of slow cooking and how the whole room just soaks up the aroma; literally making you count down the hours till dinner.

As part of their #ThankGoodness campaign, Britmums & Dolmio kindly sent us over some ingredients to help us out with creating a simple, good for you mid-week meal. I opted to make our firm family favourite - Spaghetti Bolognese. I'd never thought of slow cooked bolognese before but I'm so glad I did, this recipe is really simple to make and it's absolutely delicious.

How To Start Baby Led Weaning

As we approached little one turning six months, I was becoming increasingly anxious over how to start Baby Led Weaning. I was completely clueless, and as the majority of my family members had never chosen this method of weaning, I didn't really have anyone to turn to for advice either. I can't even begin to tell you how many hours I spent on Google and Pinterest trying to find some advice, or at least something to help ease my anxiety, alas, nothing availed. Considering that I'd never actually heard of Baby Led Weaning until I was six months pregnant, it didn't really come as much of a shock that aside from the general weaning advice, there was little information out there on Baby Led Weaning. So at six months old, we apprehensively handed over the food and started weaning our little man. Now four months later, we're a lot less clueless so I thought I'd start sharing parts of our weaning journey. Last week I introduced you all to Baby Led Weaning, so now you know what it is, I thought I'd continue with how to start Baby Led Weaning...

Review: toTs By smarTrike Hooded Bunny Towel

As soon as my little one dipped his feet in the bath, he became a water baby. I guess generically bath time is all about winding down but for us, it's fun. It's one of my favourite times of day, the giggles and the splashing are just so lovely to watch and there's definitely no doubt that my boy is in his absolute element. Once he's finished playing, I scoop him out of the bath and wrap him up head to toe. Hooded towels are one of our bathtime essentials, we've loved using them since little man was a newborn. I love the fact they're just one big snuggle but as little one is no longer a tiny little squish, hooded towels are quickly becoming a thing of the past for us. Luckily, the Joy Bunny Hooded Towel from toTs by smarTrike has us covered - I can still pretend he's a baby baby, right?

February Favourites

I'm sure I'll end up saying this every month but compared to the drag of January, this month has absolutely flown by hasn't it? I've been a little careful with the spends this month - okay, if you've seen my Baby Boy clothing hauls over on Instagram then that's a total lie, but in terms of buying things that aren't for the little one - I've probably spent less than £20! So here are the few things I've been loving throughout February..

Baby Led Weaning

What is baby led weaning?

Before our babies are even born, we are faced with different choices on how we are going to bring them up. From feeding, to sleeping, to weaning - there are numerous methods for every stage and ultimately, we all choose what's best for our families.  At some point, we have to introduce our little ones to food; so when little man turned six months old, we started Baby Led Weaning..

5 Tips For Getting A Good Nights Sleep

How to get a good nights sleep

We've all reached a point in our lives where we've searched 'how to get a good nights sleep', right?  Despite the fact my little one barely goes a couple of hours without waking, I found the worst period for sleep was when my anxiety was at it's highest. In the end I managed to find a few things that helped and I've religiously stuck by them since..

Mothers Day Gift Ideas

Sunday 26th March, Mothers Day. Truth be told, I'm a little excited as this year will be my first year celebrating Mothers Day as a Mum myself. From the very first time they say 'Mama', Motherhood is filled with so many special moments, countless celebrations, milestones and lots of 'aww' moments. I love Mother's Day (and Father's Day) as it's the perfect chance to show thanks and to look back at special memories you've shared. There are so many lovely gifts, here are just a few of my favourites this year..

The Perfect Date Night In..

Date Night Ideas For Home

Adjusting to becoming parents isn't easy and I guess spending time together hasn't really been much of a priority for us, which in reality, is ridiculous because it should be. I'll admit that I've been far too consumed with being a Mum, that I've completely neglected the fact that I'm a girlfriend too. My other half is often doing his own thing too so sometimes a whole evening will go by, and we've barely said two words to each other. It's actually pretty sad, which is exactly why we've decided we need a date night every so often...

I love Winter. I take full advantage of the nights drawing in early by lighting all the candles and snuggling under blankets, there's just no other time of year where you can fully appreciate getting cosy is there? Although, we're quite lucky here, it doesn't get exceptionally cold like the rest of the country so I don't feel like we need to hibernate everyday...

The Misconception Of Being Judged..

My lovely friend Emily came under fire today because she'd tweeted that she'd unfollowed someone as she didn't want to see their 'worrying parenting' anymore. Her reason for doing this was because she was worried she'd end up saying something. Sometimes, it's best to keep quiet as words aren't always necessary - so maybe she shouldn't have posted the tweet at all, but if I'm honest, I'm shocked at the amount of people who've negatively responded to and preached to Emily about judgement. Let's face it, we all judge others so let's not pretend we don't. However, there is a very fine line between judging and showing concern isn't there?

Is It Wrong To Let My Baby Watch TV?

can my baby watch tv

When I was pregnant, people would often be quick to tell me how hard the newborn days are, and to make sure I rest when I could. Maybe I was lucky, but if I'm honest, the newborn days were a breeze in comparison to now. Once he turned six months things began to change - I think lot of it was down to sheer frustration on his behalf because he wanted to do things before he could manage. Now, he's eight months old and constantly on the go, crawling everywhere. There are also days he suffers with separation anxiety and doesn't let me do anything. I'll admit, I do get moments where I find everything all abit overwhelming, so -  is it wrong to let my baby watch TV?

Keeping Our Family Organised Throughout 2017

busy b diary review

One thing I learnt from last year was that I need to be more organised, I'm not by any means a disorganised person in general but, I am forgetful and usually remember things at last minute. I don't think baby brain helps - does it ever go away? I swear it's worse than ever. I buy diaries every year with the intention of writing things down, some years are better than others but they're usually forgotten about after a few weeks. This year, I'm determined to keep the family organised with the help of the Busy B Family Diary 2017..

I'm a little conscious about the things I post online but this year I'm planning to take part in Donna's  Living Arrows linky which is all about celebrating childhood. HELLO 2017

I love the prospect of a new year, a complete blank page to start a fresh and leave anything negative behind. Although, I'm actually a little sad to be leaving 2016; without a doubt it has been my favourite, and biggest year. I became a Mum, we had our first baby and became a family. Although I didn't achieve a great deal overall,  I have some wonderful memories and I've learnt alot, especially when it comes to parenting.

Last night, seeing the New Year in on the sofa, in my PJ's. As the fireworks were going off, I took a minute to reflect and for the first time, I felt really grateful. I can honestly say I don't know if there has ever been a year where I've looked back and smiled a genuine smile. Obviously, there have been times throughout the year where I've wanted to scream, and just walk out the door, I am human afterall but I'm happy, and that folks is exactly what I want 2017 to be about - happiness and fun.

Anyway, I just wanted to take the time to thank you for reading my blog and to wish you all a very Happy New Year.
