Messy Play - Body Painting

Messy play allows young children to make their own discoveries, and explore their senses. We grabbed a cardboard box, some paint and did body painting..

Babies and young children learn through play, and exploring. Messy play allows them to make their own discoveries, and explore their senses without having an end goal of making something. You can use pretty much anything for messy play; I'm a self confessed serial online shopper, and a blogger so my house is constantly full of boxes, they are literally everywhere. I'm forever storing them just in case I need them for something, (usually hoarding crap in the loft), but I've decided from now on I'll use them for play...

'Cuz you know, KIDS LOVE CARDBOARD BOXES.

messy play with paint, great for sensory and exploring senses

I grabbed a fairly large box, dismantled the sides so it laid flat, and squirted paint all over it. I also cut a couple of potatoes in half so little could use them for making prints. I stripped my son down to his nappy, and let him go wild.

And boy did he take full advantage, he was loving life.

Toddler messy play ideas

He spent most of his time sliding across the cardboard, making footprints and shoving paint in his mouth but most of all, he was having fun, and it was so lovely to watch him laughing away. I know the mess seems a little crazy but forget about it, get involved and have some fun.

Although, it all went a bit Pete Tong in the end; I went to run a bath and discovered our hot water had broken, cue boiling the kettle and trying to squeeze little into an old washing up bowl - he wasn't very happy!
